Understanding Dividend Dates
📋 Declaration Date
The board officially announces the dividend amount per share. Share price usually rises after this announcement.
🔴 Ex-Dividend Date
You MUST own the shares BEFORE this date to qualify for the dividend. Buy on or after this date and you miss the payment.
📸 Record Date
The company checks its shareholder register. If your name is there, you receive the dividend.
💰 Payment Date
The actual date your dividend is credited to your brokerage account. Usually 2–4 weeks after the record date.
